No matter what kind of engine overhaul you do in your workshop; stock, performance, diesel, marine, etc., you must have the ability to surface cylinder heads and engine blocks. The surfaces on heads and blocks with a high mileage are often corroded or bend, especially if the engine has once been overheated and has had a leaky head gasket. 

Machining and finishing of cylinder heads and engine blocks is usually necessary to restore flatness. Often both are needed for the later models that use Multi Layer Steel head gaskets. For new blocks and cylinder heads, it is also necessary to obtain the correct height and piston distance to achieve the correct compression ratio.

Given that machining surfaces are a requirement, the question is what type of surfacing equipment you need for head and block machining. Grinders and belt sanders are very old-fashioned compared to the needs of today’s engines. Wet grinding can achieve high-quality surface finishes.

Almost all our machines can be equipped with a set of segment stones for wet grinding.

However, wet grinding is a messy process compared to dry milling. It also works better with cast iron. Aluminum tends to block the stones. Dry milling is a relatively fast, clean process that can deliver consistent, high-quality finishes.
